WCB Painted Animal Miniatures

Mini: D&D Miniature (DDM) -
Dire Bear (modified)
I was inspired by someone on the
Hordelings website who did a similar mod and thought I would try my hand at it. Dire Pandas are just too cool looking to not make one. The Dire Bear mini is perfect for making the repaint with too. It has that bulked up look that makes the Panda more ferocious and dangerous looking instead of fuzzy & friendly looking like they do in real life. I did add an extra bone spike on the bear's right side (thus I figure I'd better list it as a modified mini). It always seemed unbalanced without one on that side to me.

Mini: D&D Miniature (DDM) - Timberwolf
I liked the sculpt but not the paint on the miniature when I first saw it so I decided to do this repaint. Eventually I'd like to repaint a few more as a black wolf, white wolf, and red wolf as well.

Mini: D&D Miniature (DDM) -
Winter Wolf
Yes, I know that
technically Winter Wolves are not really 'animals' but it fits this category for me better. I have always loved the Winter Wolf as a monster, but thought that the Dungeons & Dragons Miniature(DDM) prepainted version looked about as ferocious as a playful puppy. I did what I could with it and managed to make it look a little more fierce but I think the sculpt holds it back a bit. Hopefully if
WoTC does a resculpt in a future set it will look better.

Mini: Grenadier Box Set, Tomb of Spells - Giant Spider
I've got a couple of these lying around. I get a kick out of the fact that the mandibles are more akin to an ant than a spider. Of course I just had to paint one up, they bring back memories of my gaming days past...hmmm, I sound old now. Anyways, I am happy with the way the 'hair' on this one turned out. I was able to get some good depth and texture. The design on it's back was a last minute thing, and the jury is still out as to whether or not I like the result.

Mini: D&D Miniature (DDM) -
Ravenous Dire Rat
This mini is another entry in the
Hordelings Against the Giants common painting challenge. The sculpt had horrendous flashing problems which I was able to carefully remove most of, but the seams still show through a bit. There is also a flat spot on his back (which all of the rats seemed to have) that oblitereated the detail in that area. All in all though, I think I did OK considering the sculpt had issues.
